Rick - He/Him/His

Rick Youssef is a proud gay man who lives in Ballarat. Rick grew up in Melbourne, and whilst studying Youth Work in the early 80s, established one of Melbourne’s first queer youth groups.

Rick moved to Ballarat in 1987 and was actively involved in safer sex education and the Ballarat AIDS care team. Rick worked in politics from 2001 and relocated to Canberra in 2006 to work in federal politics. Returning to home in 2015, Rick established the weekly Rainbow Ballarat Coffee group 2.5 years ago – welcoming members of the LGBTIQA+ community.

In his spare time, Rick worked pro-bono for Sex Work Law Reform Victoria successfully working towards the decriminalisation of sex work in our state. Rick is also a member of the board of LaNCE TV, the One Humanity Shower Bus and the Ryder Cheshire Foundation. Rick maintains an active interest in state and federal politics.

A lesbian couple who met and live in the Ballarat region, Helen and Sandy have been together for 29 years and have 7 children and 16 grandchildren together.

Xander (They/Them/Theirs)

Xander is a non-binary, queer and Indigenous nurse passionate about making healthcare more accessible for LGBTIQA+ people. They’re also a visual artist and a parent.

Remi (He/Him/His)

Remi is a year 9 student who hosts their school Pride Group and is a part of Speak’s Youth Co-design Team helping create and deliver Speak’s LGBTIQA+ Youth Support programs.
